Mr. Chapman called on me yesterday and pleaded hard for half pay
during the extension, saying that his Mother was very shaky
(having had an accident and very anxious for
him to remain at home till Sept. and that he
could not do so unless half pay were allowed.
said that when he came home the H.K. Govt. were
ready to agree to an extension of two months on
half pay.
I think we may let him have half pay for the
whole of the extension on the ground of urgent
private affairs. So inform him, Gov. and C.A.
